glimmers of hope June 18, 2008

I just got back from a trip to Puerto Peñasco (aka Rocky Point) with Love God Love People. I am still having trouble finding the right words to describe how much it made my heart hurt. What I saw there is not ok. It is not ok… that children run around without shoes. It is not ok… that a mother has to watch her children go hungry. It is not ok… that families are living outside in 100+ degree heat, because it is cooler than inside their home. A year ago, I came to Rocky Point on vacation with some of my friends. Little did I know that just a mile down the road there was a whole city of people living like this. In the picture below you can see the high-rise luxury vacation condos in the distance while seeing an endless sea of tiny shacks that run for miles. This is not ok.

However, it is evident that God is on the move in this city. In the midst of all the brokenness, there are tiny glimmers of hope. There is an outpouring of generous hearts making a difference here. This city is finding joy in the small things. It is full of love. God is up to something big and it is incredible that I am able to be a tiny part of it!

I can’t wait to see these precious faces again!

Nice Pics! I especially like the one with the sky rises in the back, that shot says a lot.

I’m sooo sooo glad you came last weekend!!! Thank you for sharing your heart and opening your arms to those people. I know you were such a blessing to them!!! It’s definitely a hard thing to see, a good thing to wrestle with and a blessing to allow God to speak to you through.

Great pics!! :)

Hope you can come in July!!!!!
